SAFL Flume

Flume-scale fracture networks

The Kang Laboratory established a flume-scale fracture network system housed within the St. Anthony Falls Laboratory (SAFL). This innovative system is crafted from transparent acrylic blocks and bolstered by sturdy supporting frames, granting unobstructed visualization from frontal, overhead, and lateral perspectives. It enables the three-dimensional visualization of transport processes within fracture networks. The setup not only advances our understanding of flow and transport within fractured media but also serves as an invaluable educational resource for teaching these complex concepts. Kang lab is affiliated with SAFL and conducts large-scale experiments at SAFL. The SAFL is an interdisciplinary fluid mechanics research lab and educational facility under the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota.
